Flaws in Microsoft Skype Deal and Its Future
I knew it, that is why I didn’t praise Microsoft for buying Skype. Yesterday, Microsoft bought Skype for 8.5 billion dollars I thought amount was too much and this definitely is the worst part of the deal. Plus I wasn’t the only one thinking so as most of the analysts and technology bloggers had the same opinion. According to Peter Sunde, “Skype would be dead as it’s the property of Microsoft now”, almost same comments came from some of the technology blogs.

Before starting my discussion let me share a rumor with you guys that Skype will be renamed as Windows Really Live (WRL). Anyways, coming back to the flaws in this Microsoft Skype deal; well.. I am not commenting myself as I read around the web and concluded the following flaws in this deal. According to the Read Write Web, there are some fears after the acquisition of Skype. Microsoft will definitely neglect Skype as they did to some other products in the past. Hotmail is a classic example, acquire in 1997, this email service now somewhat better. Gmail is still far better than Hotmail. What about Skype? Will it perish? I personally don’t think so. This definitely is a matter of concern for Microsoft.
Secondly, we all know the fact that Skype for Mac is not so mature as it is for the Windows. So considering Microsoft, the pioneers of Windows, will they release more versions of Skype? I doubt so!
Then, the malware and Trojan problems with the acquired software! Will Microsoft be able to to curb the malicious on world’s most popular communication software? Again I doubt! This point is to be highlighted as last week a malware in Skype for Mac infected users.
These were some comments about the dark future of Skype, now lets see another darker side of the deal. Even after the acquisition, Microsoft’s ratings is still the same. What does that mean? It means that there are some strategic flaws in acquiring Skype.
Microsoft thinks that buying Skype would help them integrating it with the existing products like Office, Xbox, Kinect and Windows Phone 7. Plus they think that it would help them to sell more copies of their proprietary software. I think its not a good thinking, why? Because Skype is already available almost everywhere, so how come it would help them selling more copies of their already developed software? Wow! Steve Ballmer is a genius!
Ballmer you will regret for paying too much to Skype!
To make it more clear, have a look at the poll below posted by Mashable, Microsoft just paid too much for buying Skype! Almost 65% of the web users thinks that Skype got overpaid!
Another thing to be consider is that the development of Apps for different smartphones because Skype is already offering Skype for Android, iPhone and Blackberry. Now here is the point, Microsoft will have to think about the development of newer version for the discussed mobile platforms. Isn’t it costly?
There is another question mark for this deal, this is a true fact that Skype has already an annoying interface. How Microsoft will try to get it done in a good and simple way? Also, the spamming issue on Skype! How good Microsoft be able to curb spamming and scamming activities on the Skype?
To put it short, Microsoft Skype deal has some major strategic flaws and some question marks as well. All these addressed flaws and question marks are open as there is no answer to them yet!
